Elevate your therapy practice with our Diploma Course in Group-work Practice.

Over eleven immersive weekends, you'll become part of a close-knit training community, delving into the intricacies of group analytic theory and honing the skills essential for effective group facilitation. This course not only equips you with the expertise to lead diverse groups successfully, but also opens doors to becoming a certified Group Work Practitioner with Associate Membership of the IGA. 

Immerse yourself in theoretical seminars, engaging large group meetings, and a national learning experience in Oxford. 

Our unique approach emphasises the value of group dynamics, fostering personal and professional growth in an atmosphere of collaboration and exploration.

Successful completion of this course, together with appropriate clinical experience, can lead to the status of Group Work Practitioner and Associate Membership of the IGA. For those wishing to go on to full membership of the IGA, the Diploma is the first year of the Qualifying Course, which can also be undertaken in Manchester or London.

Who is this course for:

This course is for anyone wishing to further develop their theoretical understanding and skills in setting up and running groups. If entrance requirements are satisfied, the course welcomes a wide range of professionals. While the Foundation Course offers a broad overview of group analytic theory, the Diploma course focuses on central group analytic themes and how to begin putting them into practice.

Attendance Dates 2025-2026

10 Friday evenings (5:15 - 8.30pm online) and 10 Saturdays (9.45am-6.15pm in person)

2025: 12th - 13th Sept, 3rd - 4th Oct, 7th - 8th Nov, 5th - 6th Dec

2026: 16th - 17th Jan, 6th & 7th Feb, 6th & 7th Mar, 27th & 28th Mar, April/May NLE weekend dates TBC, 5th & 6th Jun, 3rd & 4th July.

There may be some “minor” revision to the time frame. There will be coffee/tea breaks and a lunch break during the day.

Entry Requirements:

● IGA Foundation Course or equivalent training

● Degree or entry essay

● Group to bring to Work Reflection Group agreed with the Course Convenor

● Attendance at a course interview with Convenor

Course Fees 

These include a £200 non-refundable registration fee.

Early Bird Fee: £4050 available to first 6 individuals (not organisations, who apply and pay in full before 30th March 2025

Self-funding fee: £4,250

Organisational fee: £4,650

Important: 

The remaining fees are due prior to commencing the first weekend, or if you wish to pay by instalments, please do let us know and we can arrange this. Should a student be unable to complete the course, we are unable to refund any fees paid to date, and students with instalment agreements in place must pay all remaining fees.
